Description
Offered for your consideration is a vintageRealistic
part # SD-50
1 inch dome tweeter
removed from my Minimus 7 speakers, made in Japan c.1982. This
metal faceplate
Minimus 7 tweeter was used in the silver Cat. No. 40-2034 and black 40-2030A / 2030B but was replaced by the plastic faceplate version (SD-60) as a cost-cutting measure soon after the 40-2030B was introduced.
Also, it’s practically identical to the SD-13 tweeter that
Realistic
used in the very first Minimus 7 models (Cat. No. 40-2030 and 40-2034) but has a steel faceplate instead of aluminum.
So, please see the large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this capable

high frequency driver should be yours.

This Minimus 7 tweeter is in clean, excellent condition. The soft, coated textile dome is dimple-free flawless. Plus, the faceplate looks great with no dings or scratches, just finish wear in the screw hole recesses. Also, the large ceramic magnet has no oxidation. And, the +/- terminals are color-keyed for polarity and have never been soldered on the spades. It’s close to being in perfect shape!
Most importantly, it’s been fully tested and sounds outstanding—excellent upper midrange coverage and sparkling highs to a rated ceiling of 18kHz. Plus, it supports 40W continuous input in the Minimus 7, so it’s a sturdy design. Also, I tested its DC resistance at 7.5-7.6Ω, consistent with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the faceplate measures 4” x 2½”, it stands 1⅛” tall, and the mounting holes are spaced just under 3⅜” long way, 1⅞” short way, c-t-c.
This is a great find if you have a blown tweeter in your suitable early Minimus 7 and will have your speaker sounding its best again in no time!
As pictured and described, this superb, Japanese-made
Realistic
1” dome tweeter is offered at a competitive price.
