Description
Offered for your consideration is a pair of vintageFoster
part # SA80401
2½ inch cone tweeters
, manufactured in Japan 1976. As you probably know, Foster (also branded Fostex) is a prominent raw driver manufacturer that was an OE supplier to U.S. speaker companies such as Fisher,
Zenith
, Cerwin-Vega, and others. Today, they’re best known for their world-class full-range drivers.
So, please take a look at my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this capable pair of Foster tweeters should be yours.
This pair of Foster tweeters is in clean, excellent condition. They have flawless paper cones and perfect, dimple-free voice coil dustcaps. Plus, the anodized steel baskets are in great shape as well with no dents, prominent scratches, or oxidation. And, the +/- terminals measure the standard .205”, are marked for polarity (red dot = pos), and have never been soldered on the spades. Overall, these are some very well-preserved vintage tweeters.
Most importantly, they’ve been fully tested and sound very nice with strong output and well-pronounced highs approaching the limit of audibility. Plus, their DC resistance tested at a closely-matched 6.5 and 6.6Ω, respectively, consistent with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the basket flanges measure 3¾”, the cones 2½", they stand roughly 1¼” tall, and the mounting holes are spaced 2⅜” adjacent / 3⅜” diagonal apart, c-t-c.
As pictured and described, this great condition pair of vintage Foster cone tweeters is offered at a competitive price.
