Oxford
4 inch Alnico magnet cone tweeter
made in 1965. As I’m sure you know, Oxford was a notable supplier to the domestic speaker industry and per the EIA source/date code on the basket, “465505”, this tweeter was manufactured by Oxford (465) in the 5th week of 1965.
So, please have a look at the large photos I’ve taken and read the remaining description to decide if this vintage high frequency driver is suitable for your needs.
This tweeter is in clean, excellent condition. The seamed paper cone is flawless and so is the voice coil dustcap. Plus, the open-backed, galvanized steel basket is also in great shape with no dings or noteworthy oxidation. In addition, the +/- terminals are marked for polarity (red dot = +) and have been de-soldered for the new owner’s convenience.
Most importantly, it’s been fully tested and works perfectly—clear, strong, with nice upper frequency detail. I also tested the DC resistance at 7.7Ω, consistent with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the basket flange measures 4⅛” square, it stands roughly 1½” high, and the mount holes are spaced 3 5/16” adjacent / 4 11/16” on the diagonal apart, c-t-c.
