    Description

Offered for your consideration is one (1) vintage
    FISHER
    part # W-142
    10 inch woofer
, USA-made c.1967.  In the 1950’s and 60’s, FISHER speakers were produced exclusively by USS, United Speaker Systems of NJ, which is still doing business today as Phase Tech. USS manufactured the drivers and added FISHER’s decal. However, they also bought drivers from Chicago-based GEFCO (EIA # 1056) and even Denmark’s Peerless to keep up with the volume of speaker orders from FISHER in the 1960’s.
So, please take a look at my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this capable woofer should be yours.
This FISHER woofer is in clean, near excellent condition. The sturdy paper cone is in perfect shape and the voice coil dustcap is the same. Plus, the surround is
    permanent
, poly-coated textile material instead of the fragile foam which would soon come into widespread industry use.  Aside from some dust and tiny cabinet debris that adhered to the tacky surround coating, it's pretty much perfect.  And, the galvanized steel basket has no dings or scratches, just some typical white oxidation on the back side, as pictured. Lastly, the “double-type” +/- terminals measure the industry-standard .205”, are marked for polarity on the basket, and have never been soldered on the spades. Overall, this is a well-preserved vintage woofer.
Most importantly, it’s been fully tested and sounds terrific—strong and clear with solid low-end response and clean, detailed mid frequencies. I also tested the DC resistance at 5.2Ω, consistent with a nominal 8 ohm driver range of the past (the 6 ohm rating was not typically used when it was made). Lastly, the basket measures 10⅛” across, it stands 3⅝” tall, and the four-corner mounting pattern is 7” adjacent (skipping a hole) / 9⅞” diagonal, c-t-c.
This is a nice find for somebody that has a blown or damaged 10” woofer in their 1960’s/70’s FISHER or other suitable domestic speakers.
As pictured and described, this FISHER 10" woofer is offered at a competitive price.
