vintage ADVENT 10" woofers, 1978—The ADVENT Loudspeaker, ADVENT/1—refoamed 2020

Offered for your consideration is a pair of
ADVENT
10 inch long-throw woofers
removed from my
The ADVENT Loudspeaker
speakers, USA-manufactured in 1978. ADVENT manufactured these 10” woofers in-house using a larger stamped steel basket that they sourced for its greater depth. These highly sought-after mid/bass drivers were also used in the slightly smaller ADVENT/1 of the same period and possibly other ADVENT speakers, but buyer is wholly responsible for determining their suitability for any other applications.
So, please see my large photos, the measurements, and read the remainder of the description to decide if these capable, hard-to-find ADVENT mid/bass woofers should be yours.
These ADVENT woofers are in clean, good condition. The sturdy, ribbed paper cones are structurally sound with no cracks, and the voice coil dustcaps are dimple-free perfect. Also, the baskets are in decent shape with no dents or noteworthy scratches, just some blemishes and a few spots of oxidation to the flat black flange finish and some typical oxidation on the back sides, as pictured. Plus, the heavy square magnets have no chips noted. And, the +/- input terminals measure the standard .205”, are marked for polarity (red dot = pos.), and have never been soldered on the spades.
Most importantly,
the former owner had the aged, broken original polyurethane foam suspension replaced with modern polyether foam surrounds in early 2020
. It’s an ok refoam job by my high standards, but resulted in some excess glue on the cone edges and basket flanges, as pictured.  And, the inner surround lip should have gone underneath the cone instead of atop for this application. I would have done a cleaner job, but you’d also be looking at a higher price. In any event, they work perfectly, which is what really matters.  Plus, the  refoam job should be good for the next 20+ years; perhaps even permanently with how much more durable foam compounds are now.
These woofers have been fully tested after the new surrounds were installed and sound terrific as you’d expect from ADVENT in this era—very clear with fast, detailed midrange, and solid bass response. I also tested their DC resistance at 4.6 and 4.8Ω, respectively, consistent with a nominal 6-8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the basket flanges measure 11⅜” across (12½” on the diagonal), they stand 5”, and the mount holes are spaced 8¼” adjacent / 11⅝” on the diagonal, c-t-c.
These are a nice find if your The ADVENT Loudspeaker, ADVENT/1, or other suitable ADVENT speakers, have been sitting idle with large basket 10” woofers that are unplayable due to decayed surrounds—your cherished speakers will be sounding their finest again in no time!
So, as pictured and described, this pair of ADVENT 10” woofers with refurbished surrounds is offered at a competitive price.
