Vintage 100 Poker Chip Set in Marbleized Circular Rack

$ 12.67

Availability: 100 in stock

Description

This is a Vintage Art Deco 100 Poker Chip Set in a Marbleized Circular Rack.
At the time of the original listing, this was one of six listings for poker chips, chip sets, and racks, all purchased from a long time collector who was downsizing and selling some of his collection.  Additionally we have a number of other poker chip listings including other sets with racks in our ebay store.
The chips are an older plastic.  They have two outer rings of concentric serrations to allow them to interlock, and a plain center.  The chips are 1 1/2" in diameter.  Each weighs just under 5 grams (4.87 grams each - you can see a stack on ten our jewelry scale shows a weight of 48.7 grams).
The number of chips present of each color are:
Cream / White 50
Blue 25
Red 25
The rack is probably an older marbleized plastic.  I did not get a positive test for semi-chrome.  I thought I detected a bit of smell from rubbing but I think the result was unconclusive at best.  I opted not to try a hot water test with this larger size item.  This was the case on a couple of the other sets as well.  I am pricing and selling the set under the assumption that it is an older plastic and not bakelite.
I believe these chips and the racks are both of the Art Deco era, circa 1930s - 1940s, but I do not know specifically if these chips are original to the rack or not.  The rack is designed to hold 100 chips and it is full.
The marbelized plastic enhances the appeal of the 5 1/2" diameter rack.  The rack has a well across the back for a card deck with two semi-circular wells to allow you grip and remove the cards with two fingers.
Condition
Chips
There is a significant variation in the color on many of the white / cream chips, as you can see from a closeup photo of examples of chips with the most variation in appearance.  Most of the blues are pretty uniform in color.  This is true of most of the red chips as well, but there are three red chips with significant color variation as seen in the same closeup photo with the other chips.
Rack
It appears that the rack may have had a knob or button on top like its companion (being offered in a separate listing) that allowed it to rotate for easy access when held up but, as found, the knob is missing. The rack is otherwise in excellent condition.  It is offered as found / as seen / as described with respect to the missing knob.
