he Slice® 10417 Retractable Precision Cutter features a safe, effective, micro-ceramic blade with our proprietary finger-friendly® grind. Safe to the touch, the 10417 cuts intricate details into thin materials with an easy-to-control handle. When you?re done, retract the blade by clicking the plunger?it?s as familiar and easy to use as a ballpoint pen. As with all Slice safety blades, the installed 10418 cartridge?s blade is made from 100 percent zirconium oxide, an advanced ceramic that?s much harder than steel. In fact, Slice blades last up to 11 times longer than metal blades. They don?t require any oil coating or lubricant, they?re chemically inert, and they?ll never rust. No-tool blade change is simple to perform and convenient. Pocket your 10417 with its onboard pen clip and you?re ready to go.

Slice was founded in 2008 by TJ Scimone. Always looking for new ideas, he collaborated with renowned designers to reimagine everyday cutting products, making them safer and easier to use. Since that time, Slice has developed a collection of award-winning safety cutters that increase productivity, lower costs, and, most importantly, reduce injuries. Scimone founded Slice as a way to help fund long-term care for his autistic son. One percent of all Slice sales are donated to autism research.

Slice makes safer versions of traditional tools like box cutters, utility knives, pen cutters, and craft knives. We've also developed ceramic micro-blade technology with innovative tools like our Precision Cutter and Safety Cutter. Whenever possible, Slice tools are ambidextrous and offer tool-free blade replacement.

Only a small portion of the risks users face are addressed by new handle designs, which is why Slice redesigned the blade.
Most safety cutter brands look for new ways to design their handles. While these innovations are helpful, they don?t solve the core problem. After all,
what cuts you: the handle or the blade?
Slice went back to basics and developed a safer blade, using advanced ceramics.
Because steel is a relatively soft material, it dulls quickly. To give steel blades a useful working life, manufacturers sharpen it far beyond what?s necessary. This workaround sacrifices worker safety for longevity. Slice uses 100 percent zirconium oxide, an extremely hard material that doesn?t need to be oversharpened in order to maintain its edge. This allowed us to develop a proprietary grind that creates a finger-friendly, touchable blade that holds it edge an average of 11.2 times longer than steel.
The difference that blade thickness makes is clear: metal cuts skin easily while Slice ceramic blades require much more force before they?ll pierce skin.
Slice blades are wider and include a small micro edge that does the actual cutting. The grind angles create a blade that cuts materials effectively, but resists cutting skin. Slice blades disperse their pressure, requiring much more force to pierce skin?s tough outer layer than narrow steel blades.

Please note that all new products purchased from the Slice, Inc. store must be returned within 30 days of purchase for a refund, minus shipping and restocking fee.  The Slice Inc Store will pay for return freight only if the return is a result of our error (incorrect product shipped, product defect, etc.).

All new Slice, Inc. handles are covered for 1 year against parts and labor warranty for manufacturer defects.  Note, blades are not covered by the warranty due to the fact they will endure wear and tear that is beyond our control.
