Providence RI: 1908 KEITH'S THEATRE Vaudeville Handbill Program Announcement
Edward F. Albee, Proprietor; Charles Lovenberg, Manager. Week Commencing Monday, March 16, 1908. The acts in order of appearance are listed on the handbill. size is about 12 x 5-1/4. Condition is VG, with some light creases, which have been flattened in a professional vacuum press as much as possible. A great piece of vaudevillian history. I was lucky enough to find online in a library, Albee's own candid notes on the talent in the shows of this week, and have included the OCR of those notes below.
Reports on show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of March 16, 1908. (Chas. Lovenberg, Mgr.)
The show this week, as I feared, is not very good. Again it is a case of being handicapped by two expensive K. & E. acts. The general tone of the bill is mediocre, not containing any one real first-class act.
Kit Karson. Wire walker and sharp shooter. Well-known 3-a-day act and is satisfactory in it's way. 10 Min. Full Stage, 3 Shows.
Francis & Rogers. Man and woman. Not a very good offering, even from the 3-a-day standpoint. The woman is decidedly amateurish; barely got by. 12 Min. in 1, 3 Shows.
Wm. Craven. Concertina player. Very good 3-a-day turn. O. K. for the smaller 2-a-day houses. 10 Min. in 2, can work in 1, 3 Shows.
Kennedy & Wilkins. Two men, singing and dancing. Good dancers; good for 3-a-day or smaller 2-a-day houses. 9 Min. in 1, 3 Shows.
Ben Beyer & Bro. A most excellent 3-a-day comedy bicycle act. Good enough to open the show in any of the 2-a-day houses. 13 Min. Full Stage, 3 Shows.
Diamond & Smith. Illustrated songs and motion pictures. Didn't do quite as well as on previous visits. 17 Min. in 1, 3 Shows.
Staley's Transformation. The only thing about this act of consequence is the transformation scene. The musical part of it being really bad. Having had the transformation two or three times there is no novelty to it, consequently no value to the act. It is worth 0. to the house. 10 Min. Full Stage, 2 Shows.
Thos. Dempsey. Monologuist, formerly Burke & Dempsey. This man has a very good personality indeed and delivers some poems of a humourous and serious nature, in an excellent manner. It is too bad that a number of his jokes are so old,-as that handicaps his act somewhat. However, at the money, it is a positive find. Worth playing anywhere. With some better material he would be one of the best monologuists in vaudeville. 15 Min. in 1, 2 Shows.
Linton & Lawrence. Singing and dancing sketch. About as good an act as we have on the bill and I think the audience liked it quite as well as anything else. 17 Min. Full Stage, can close in 1, for about 2 Min. 2 Shows.
Akounine Trio. Fairly good musical act, not up to expectations however. 12 Min. in 1, 2 Shows.
Edwin Forsberg & Co. In "The Card Party." A splendid sketch, poorly played. The strength of the piece itself holds it up and they will probably get by, but it is too bad that it is not a better company. 28 Min. Full Stage, 2 Shows.
Hibbert & Warren. Well-known blackface act that didn't do very well until their closing dance. Ragtime Piano playing is a thing of the past, at least for this house, consequently the early part of the act fell flat, and as I said before not until the closing eccentric dance did these people score - in which they made a hit, but I do not consider an act first-class that gets a lot of applause at the finish for about three minutes work when they waste ten minutes with dry material getting up to it. 13 Min. in 1, 2 Shows.
Avon Comedy Four. The same old slap-stick act which got a number of laughs, but by no means made the hit hoped for. Not worth the money by any means. 20 Min. open Full Stage, close in 1, 2 Shows.
Clermont's Animals. This act is a decided novelty, and contains a number of unusual and very good features, but the whole thing works slowly and detracts from the better part of the act, for that reason. I consider the act about 0. overpaid. 18 Min. Full Stage, 2 Shows.
    Motion Pictures O. K.

Additional purchases will be combined if bought same day, for one low shipping rate. Sales Tax may apply. Please read and accept my terms of sale below before you bid.
IN YOUR COMPUTER BROWSER, RIGHT-CLICK ON A PHOTO AND SELECT "VIEW IMAGE" TO SEE THE ORIGINAL LARGE IMAGE:
You will find that the originals of the photos below are often larger than what ebay provides above.
BY BIDDING ON OR PURCHASING THIS ITEM, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING SELLER TERMS:
    1)
    COMBINED SHIPPING/POSTAGE:
I happily combine shipping where possible, but orders over will require tracking now because of Postal Service delays. Tracking/delivery confirmation speeds up shipments. DUE TO LIMITATIONS OF THE EBAY PLATFORM,
THERE IS NOW ONLY ONE WAY TO RECEIVE ANY POSSIBLE DISCOUNTS FOR COMBINED SHIPPING CHARGES ON MULTIPLE ONE-DAY PURCHASES,
both Auction and Buy-It-Now formats. There are no longer Ebay refunds for postage once payment has been made:
    a. Auction Purchases: Wait for combined shipping invoice on multiple auction wins prior to payment. This may take up to a day based on my schedule, and does not affect your prompt payment status. The message line of the invoice will reflect that the postage has been combined.
    b. Buy-It-Now Purchases: If you plan to buy more than one item from me, add them to your shopping cart on a computer (not a phone or tablet), DO NOT USE BUY IT NOW BUTTON. Once you're completed adding to your cart from my listings, go to the shopping cart and click on the button at top of cart page that says "Request Total From Seller." You will be prompted to commit to the purchases, at which point nobody else will be able to buy them. A notice will be sent to me to package your items together and combine your shipping charges as much as possible, and send a hopefully reduced invoice. This may take up to a day, depending on my schedule.
    c. International Buyers: You must be logged in to the US eBay site (www.ebay.com) in order to use the shopping cart to request combined shipping invoice. Log out of your country specific eBay and log in at the US site. Note: listings using the eBay Global Shipping program are not subject to combined shipping.
    d. No refunds will be made for those who cannot wait for a combined invoice. Please don't bid/buy if you don't agree to this.
    2)
    POSTAGE:
All USPS postage rates are calculated using the most affordable (not the quickest) shipping class, based on a pre-sale estimated weight and size of the package. If you want to upgrade to a quicker, more expensive postal class, you must let me know BEFORE you pay.
    3)
    SALES TAX:
Ebay has taken over all duties for sales tax collection for all states that require it. I have no control whatsoever over who pays sales tax, it is out of my hands. Please direct all questions/complaints to the good folks at Ebay.
    4)
    INTERNATIONAL BUYERS:
Please Note: Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying. We won't under-value merchandise or mark the item as a gift on customs forms. Doing that is against U.S. and international laws.
    5)
    LISTING DISCREPANCIES
If the Title, Description, and/or Photo on a listing do not match, for gosh sakes don't buy it. Let me know instead so I can fix the listing. If you do buy, the item described in the Title of the listing takes precedence over anything else. If you don't agree with that, I will cancel the purchase at your request.
