This auction is for a Postal Telegraph-Cable Company Telegram from theatre actor Richard Mansfield  The telegram was sent to Homer Bassford who at the time was a Staff Correspondent, Sunday Editor and Drama Critic of the St. Louis Republic.  In the telegram, Mansfield refers to the great success his current play "Old Heildelberg" has been having.

Richard Mansfield (1857-1907) was an English Actor-Manager best known for his performances in Shakespeare plays, Gilbert and Sullivan operas and for his portrayal of the dual title roles in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.*
Homer Bassford (1869-1938) American Newspaperman. Began his career with the Mexico Ledger of Mexico, Missouri before moving on to the Kansas City Times where he was the Sunday and City Editor.  From there he moved on to the St Louis Republic and the St Louis Times where he held the positions of Sunday Editor, Drama Critic and Editorial Manager.
