Description
Offered for your consideration is one (1) vintagepiezoelectric tweeter
, removed from a
BML
Tracer 1001A
two-way speaker made c.1989. With a BML custom-configured frame, this is an uncommon piezo high frequency driver. I believe the tweeter is a
Motorola
unit and it may have been used in other period BML speakers, and other brands/models, but you’ll need to make that assessment based on your needs.
So, please see the large photos I’ve taken and read the remaining description to determine if this tweeter is correct for your speaker.
This piezo tweeter is in clean, excellent condition. The black-painted fiberboard is in nice shape and the hard plastic speaker casing has no cracks or imperfections noted. Plus, the grille cover is perfect as well. Lastly, the double-type” +/- terminals measure the industry standard .205” and I’ve left the factory wires soldered to the spades for the next owner’s convenience in retrofitting to their 1001A speaker (simple wire nuts were used to connect the driver wires to the crossover wires in the BML speaker).
It’s been fully tested and sounds very clear with the upper frequency crispness that piezo units are known for. No DC resistance test was taken since piezo tweeters don’t give a reading like drivers with conventional magnets. Lastly, the tweeter is permanently attached to the faceplate which is 3⅜” square, about ½” thick, and the mount holes are spaced 2¾” adjacent / 3⅞” diagonal apart, c-t-c.
As pictured and described, this well-preserved BML Tracer 1001A piezo tweeter is offered at a competitive price.
