    Description

We are offering a 1900 autograph card signed by American stage actress Isabel Irving.  The card is in an envelope that was pasted on a 6" x 13 1/4" poster board (that had been part of a scrapbook).  Along with the card (also on the board) is a theatre broadside for "
    The Crisis
" in which Irving played the leading female role of Virginia Carvel, New Club Theatre, Joplin, MO, Season 1903/04.
Isabel Irving (1871-1944) began her stage career in 1888 playing in over 3 dozen Broadway hits from 1888 through 1936, including:
An Ideal Husband, A Marriage of Convenience, The Tyranny of Tears, To Have and To Hold, The Toast of the Town, Susan in Search of a Husband, The Girl Who has Everything, The Merry Wives of Windsor, A Bachelor's Night, The Bride, A Lady's Virtue, The Age of Innocence,
    and
    Uncle Vanya,
    to name just a few.
Isabel Irving's autograph had been requested by a woman by the name of Emily J. Stanton, who was the owner of the original scrapbook.
Emily Stanton must have been an avid theatre-goer (and collector), as we have dozens of these scrapbook boards, (some of which are on eBay now; some we will be listing later on) with theatre broadsides or programs, together with an autograph card, some accompanied by a letter, from a major actor or actress who performed in the plays.  The plays that Stanton attended were in major U.S. cites, such as New York and Los Angeles, and also in London.
