GOOD NEWS Original cast of 1974 revival with ALICE FAYE, JOHN PAYNE, STUBBY KAYEThis 2-record album in gatefold format captures all the warmth, good cheer, memorable songs, famous voices and sheer nostalgia of the 1974 Broadway revival. The original production of GOOD NEWS opened in 1927 and stayed put for nearly 600 performances. It was such a hit that two films were made from it. The better-known of the two starred June Allyson and Peter Lawford and it too was a hit. This revival with ALICE FAYE and JOHN PAYNE toured a full year before it landed on Broadway. And all across the country, audiences shivered with delight every time FAYE or PAYNE appeared on stage. And they all but swooned when the two beloved stars teamed up and launched into an old favorite and familiar song like "You're the Cream in My Coffee". Or when the great Broadway veteran Stubby Kaye knocked 'em out with "Keep You're Sunny Side Up". And we have "The Varsity Drag" and "Button Up Your Overcoat" and "The Best Things in Life Are Free, not to mention "Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries". And to take us behind the scenes, this album also contains some old songs that were performed only in rehearsal. GOOD NEWS is a nostalgia fest with great old songs, an energetic cast of singers and dancers and two superb stars both in great voice. This album is Number 518 from a very limited edition of only 1000. It's not only filled with pictures but there are also lively production notes and four sides of memorable songs. The two records are in excellent condition -- only played once. The jacket shows some signs of shelfwear predictable for its 47 years. Some tanning around the margins. A couple of gaps along the top edge have been repaired with cellophane tape. And in the upper left corner of the back cover there is a small indecipherable signature of less than two inches in length. This is a rare recording and a wonderful addition to any collection of cast albums.
