Description

Singapore Merchant Token 1 Keping Negeri Deli (See Pridmore, Numismatic International Buletin Vol. 13 No. 5.2). This is one of the
rare coin
in the Singapore Merchant Tokens series. These series of coins were made at Soho Mints on orders from Singapore traders, to be used for trading in the Netherlandsch Indies area (now Indonesia).
These coins are named according to their trading area (for example, Negeri Deli coins are used to trade in the Deli North Sumatra area, Negeri Siak coins are used to trade in the Siak Sumatra area, etc.) These coins are circulating to address the problem of the lack of circulation of coins in the Netherlands Indies at that time, especially in the areas of Sumatra, Sulawesi (Celebes) and Kalimantan (Borneo), although the Netherlands has banned the circulation of these coins.
This coin is made of copper with a diameter of 21mm, thi
ckness of about 1mm and the weight of about 2.06gr (standard coin).
