    Description

We are offering an Annie Russell 1901 Autograph Card and Four Theatre Broadsides.
The autograph card is in an envelope that has been pasted on a 11 1/2" x 13 1/2" thick poster board (that had been part of a scrapbook).  Also with the card, on the board, are two of the theatre broadsides:
    both broadsides are for
    "A Royal Family
", at the Lyceum Theatre, (with Russell playing the role of The Princess Alestine Victorine Angela) - one broadside is for the performance on October 22, 1900; the other is for November 11, 1901.
The other two broadsides are on a separate 9 1/2" x 13 1/2" board, and are for:
    "
    A Midsummer Night's Dream
", (with Russell playing Puck), Mason Opera House, Los Angeles, 1907; and "
    The 13th Chair
", (with Russell playing Rosalie La Grange), Garrick Theatre, Chicago, 1917.
Annie Russell (1864-1936) was an Irish-English/American actress, who was considered a great melodramatic heroine.  She was one of the most popular American stage actresses at the turn of the 20th century, performing in dozens of plays from 1881 through 1918.
This autograph had been requested by a woman by the name of Emily J. Stanton, the owner of the original scrapbook.
Emily Stanton must have been an avid theatre-goer (and collector), as we have many of these scrapbook boards, (some of which are on eBay now; some we will be listing later on) with theatre broadsides or programs, together with an autograph card, some accompanied by a letter, from a major actor or actress who performed in the plays.  The plays that Stanton attended were in major U.S. cites, such as New York and Los Angeles, and also in London.  CONDITION: Excellent; one board has a slight chip at upper left edge.
